BOTOX® FOR MIGRAINES

FIND RELIEF FROM SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHRONIC CONDITION FOR NEWTON AND THE BOSTON AREA

A migraine is a neurological disorder that can cause a strong headache along with other symptoms, such as sensitivity to light, sound, and smell. It can also be accompanied by nausea and throbbing or pulsing pain. The problem typically occurs on one side of the head, but it can sometimes affect both sides. Migraines can have a major impact on quality of life and interfere with your ability to perform basic, everyday tasks. Although BOTOX® is a cosmetic injectable treatment that’s well-known for its ability to soften lines and wrinkles on the face, many people don’t realize that it is also FDA approved as a treatment for headaches and migraines. BOTOX® for migraines at the Boston area’s Dr. Happe Medical Aesthetics is a minimally invasive treatment that can significantly reduce the frequency of migraines in some people, as well as treat certain other headaches that aren’t migraines.

WHAT IS BOTOX® FOR MIGRAINES?

BOTOX® for migraines is a preventative therapy that can reduce the frequency of chronic attacks. Here’s what you should know about BOTOX® and migraines:

The primary ingredient in BOTOX® is onabotulinumtoxinA, which is a toxin derived from a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. It works by preventing the proper transmission of messages via the nervous system.

Although scientists are still seeking to fully understand how BOTOX® for migraines works, we do know that it blocks pain signals in the nerves that trigger migraines, and its safety profile has been established.

In addition to BOTOX® injections for migraines, it is also possible to use BOTOX® for headaches. BOTOX® is used as an off-label treatment for some non-migraine headaches, such as tension-type headaches.

We can help you decide whether BOTOX® for tension headaches, BOTOX® for sinus headaches, or BOTOX® shots for migraines would be the right option for you.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX® FOR MIGRAINES OR BOTOX® FOR HEADACHES?

If other migraine treatments have not been effective for you or have caused unpleasant side effects, BOTOX® for migraines or headaches might be a good option to consider. Patients should be in otherwise good health. There are specific criteria that Dr. Holly Happe can discuss during a personalized consultation.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR BOTOX® FOR MIGRAINES?

The procedure for BOTOX® for migraines is similar to other types of BOTOX® treatments except for the fact that the medication is typically injected into several regions all over the face and neck, including different parts of the forehead, scalp, bridge of the nose, temples, back of the head, and neck. The injection locations will vary for each patient depending on their anatomy and where they have pain points.

A small amount of BOTOX® is injected into the chosen sites. The cycle of treatments for BOTOX® for migraines can be continued every three months.

BEYOND BOTOX® FOR MIGRAINES: WHICH COSMETIC CONCERNS CAN BE TREATED?

In addition to BOTOX® treatments for migraines and BOTOX® for headaches, there are also many types of cosmetic treatments available, such as forehead BOTOX® , jawline BOTOX® , face slimming BOTOX® , a modest brow lift or “eye lift” to open the eyes more, a Nefertiti lift for the neck, or trapezius injections for shaping the neck and shoulders. The injectable can treat many common conditions, such as bunny lines, a dimpled chin, moderate to severe forehead wrinkles, glabellar lines, crow’s feet or smile lines, fine lines above the lips, wrinkles under the eyes, a square or clenched jaw, drooping eyebrows, a gummy smile, pronounced neck bands, and downturned corners of the mouth. Discover ways to get a sense of its uses via before-and-after photographs.

It can even be used as a preventative treatment to keep wrinkles from developing or growing deeper, as well as help for hyperhidrosis, the medical term for excessive sweating in the underarms or feet.

Daxxify™ is a peptide-enhanced injectable neuromodulator treatment similar to BOTOX® , but providing results that last for up to six to nine months.
