What Is Bellafill®?
Collagen, one of the skin’s main building blocks, is a tough protein that gives support and volume to the skin while helping it maintain an elastic quality. Special cells routinely create collagen in the skin, but with each passing decade, this production diminishes—along with elastin and hyaluronic acid. Because of this aging-related change, it’s common for lines and wrinkles to appear in areas where collagen is depleted and become etched onto the face.
Bellafill® is a dermal filler derived from polymethyl methacrylate. Tiny “microspheres” are encased within soft gel that is injected with a fine needle. This injectable packs a beautiful one-two punch: First, thanks to its gel base, it provides an initial volumizing effect that can last for around three to four weeks.
In the meantime, polymethyl methacrylate in the injectable gets to work encouraging the skin to build a “scaffold.” Cells respond to the microspheres by building new collagen around them. This action truly sets Bellafill® apart from other fillers.
One of the main advantages of the treatment is that the fresh collagen can smooth out smile lines and other wrinkles for up to five years—long after the filler itself dissipates—making it a convenient option as patients won’t have to spend money and time on frequent injection sessions. Bellafill® is also the only FDA-approved long-term cosmetic solution to soften the look of acne scars.
What Conditions Can Bellafill® Treat?
Bellafill® is mainly used to restore volume in the skin to soften the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), hollow temples, sunken cheeks, acne scars, and more. It can also dramatically improve skin quality and beautifully define the jawline.
What Is The Newton Bellafill® Experience?
Each consultation for Bellafill® is fully customized to develop a plan that caters to the needs and expectations of individual patients. To start with, Dr. Holly Happe assesses your full medical background and examines your face, taking note of any wrinkles that could be improved with Bellafill® and the amount that should be injected. During this time, she will also inform you of any risks involved. An additional skin test is required to make sure you don’t have an allergy to bovine collagen, which is part of the gel carrier.
The goal for injections is to create a balanced, natural look. The procedure itself may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the areas being targeted. Dr. Happe always makes it a priority to ensure a comfortable experience and may apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment site.

What Complements A Bellafill® Treatment?
Other facial options at Dr. Happe Medical Aesthetics include the Juvederm® family of fillers for facial contouring and BOTOX® for relaxing wrinkle-revealing muscles. The Juvederm® brand has a range of different products for addressing various forms of pronounced wrinkles and volume loss on the middle and lower part of the face, such as thinning lips or flattened cheeks.
Unlike Bellafill® , the Juvederm® family contains moisture-regulating hyaluronic acid, and the temporary effects of these fillers can be reversed with an enzyme if necessary. BOTOX® and other similar neuromodulators, like Dysport® and Xeomin, which temporarily weaken facial muscle contractions, work on dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle motion as opposed to lines targeted by fillers. Neuromodulators are mostly used on the upper third of the face.
