Chin Treatment: Should I use Kybella®, Fillers, or BOTOX®?
Faces generally considered attractive in our society are usually proportional with a defined chin and chiseled cheekbones. With this in mind, a look of extra fullness below the chin, known as a double chin, is what Boston-area patients often come to the Dr. Happe Medical Aesthetics office to address. You don’t have to be overweight to have this cosmetic problem. Although fat is a primary contributor to the look, sagging skin and even a person’s natural face shape can create the illusion of having an additional chin. Keep in mind that an underdeveloped bone structure in the lower face, reduced skin elasticity, or genetics can cause some people to be more prone to having a double chin, so there is no “one size fits all” solution. Not even diet and exercise can reliably slim down the troublesome area.
If you want to add a “wow” factor to your jawline and chin by reducing bulk and improving definition, the good news is that you have many options—and they’re not all dependent on plastic surgery. Dermal fillers and other injectables can provide beautiful results, but with minimal discomfort and no need for a lengthy recovery phase.
There are three main choices for non-surgical jawline contouring with injectables: Kybella®, facial fillers, and BOTOX®.
We will help you choose the best treatment or combination of techniques to address your unique concerns, but we also believe “knowledge is power!” With that in mind, here is a very brief outline featuring key facts about each treatment for patients interested in knowing more about their options.
Kybella®
Kybella® contains a synthetic form of a digestive acid found naturally in the body, known as deoxycholic acid. When this ingredient is injected into the tissues below the chin, it prompts the destruction of a significant number of fat cells, decreasing the volume in the area and reducing a double chin.
Fillers
High cheekbones, rounded cheeks, and an angular chins make up what is widely known as the “triangle of youth.” Many of us strive to attain these attributes associated with beautiful faces. Fillers like Juvederm® create definition by mimicking the role of bone, adding structure to the cheeks and projection to the chin.
BOTOX®
In addition to collagen loss, premature aging is also linked to overworked muscles. BOTOX® is applied to the sides of the jaw for facial slimming by thinning bulky masseter muscles that contribute to a square jaw. It also smooths chin dimpling and lifts drooping mouth corners by relaxing active facial muscles that accentuate marionette lines.
